Pat Carey has a lifetime of experience in the teaching, community development and public representation sectors at both national and international level.

As a respected TD (Teachta Dala) for 14 years he has extensive experience in managing legislative processes, developing regulatory framework for charities including enactment of Charities Act 2008 and has chaired or been a board member of many organisations.

As a minister Pat was responsible for social inclusion & community development policy, Irish language policy, the National Drugs Strategy and family, equality, and integration policy. He was also was responsible for dealing with the reconfiguration of former Departments of Justice and Social Protection into the new Department with a focus on the development of social policy.

Pat is the first independently appointed Irish Red Cross chairperson and is an advocate of positive engagement across all stages of life.
